An Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessment can be conducted to determine whether someone has this condition. This is a clinical and multidisciplinary assessment. At our clinic, we gather important information by talking with parents, other professionals involved in the child or teen's care, such as their teacher or speech pathologist. We then meet with the child to perform an in-person assessment. At our clinic we use well known evidence based tools, such as the ADOS-2 and also do an in-person and/or school observation if needed to determine whether someone has ASD. Medicare provides rebates for children's assessments, which can be obtained by seeing a paediatrician or child psychiatrist before assessment. Children and teens are usually eligible for rebates. For an assessment of both ASD and ADHD, please see the 'Combined' pricing below, as these are often co-morbid (co-occurring) conditions.
- Autism Spectrum Disorder Assessment Cost: $2200. A $200 deposit is required to secure the booking.
- Combined Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Assessment Cost: $2500. A deposit of $200 is required to secure the booking.
- An academic or achievement assessment is used to evaluate someone's academic abilities, such as reading, writing, spelling and mathematics. An academic assessment on its own may be requested to understand someone's learning abilities, it may also be requested to see if someone has a learning disorder (if a cognitive assessment has already been completed).
- PLEASE NOTE: If a cognitive assessment has not been completed then a combined cognitive and academic assessment is required so we can evaluate if there is a discrepancy between someone's intellectual and academic skills. A Specific Learning Disorder (SLD) can be diagnosed by using these assessments, which used to be known under different labels, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia. If a child or teenager has this disorder they may be able to apply for learning and exam exemptions. Spirit Psychology can assist your child by meeting with the school to recommend learning supports and exemptions if there is evidence of significant and persistent learning difficulties. Often, learning issues can be overlooked and misunderstood as defiance or anxiety. If a child has a learning disorder they need specific support and guidance, enquire today for more information.
- Academic Assessment Cost: $2000. A $200 deposit is required to secure the booking.
- Combined Academic and Cognitive Assessment Cost: $2600. A $200 deposit is required to secure the booking.
A cognitive assessment can determine whether someone is gifted, twice exceptional, or has an intellectual disability or global developmental delay. It is also used alongside other tools to help diagnose certain conditions. A cognitive assessment can be conducted for all ages. For children and teens, we typically use Wechsler assessment tools, which are standardised evidence-based assessments. These cognitive assessment tools evaluate verbal comprehension, visual spatial intelligence, working memory, fluid reasoning and processing speed skills, and are used to calculate someone's intelligence quotient score (IQ). For much younger children we use the Bayley Scale of Infant and Toddler Development. An assessment of intelligence for infant and toddlers is useful to inform intervention and to help them build crucial skills that ready them for school. If a disability is suspected then the child and family may be eligible for funding supports. Enquire today by getting in touch with us via our contact page.
- Cognitive Assessment Cost: $1800. A $200 deposit is required to secure the booking.
An Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) assessment can be conducted to determine whether someone has this condition. At our clinic, we try to gather information by talking with other professionals involved in a child or teen's care, such as their teacher or speech pathologist. Medicare may provide rebates for complex neurodevelopmental assessment, which can only be obtained by seeing a paediatrician or child psychiatrist before assessment. At our clinic we use well known evidence based tools and also do an in-person or school observation to determine whether someone has ADHD. For an assessment of both ASD and ADHD, please see the 'Combined' pricing below, as these are often co-morbid (co-occurring) conditions.
